Pollinators
Much thanks to entomologist Katherine Rawson for her help in identifying the three ants in this post to at least the genus level.
8th October 2020 – 4th October 2023
In truth I completely forgot to update this log this entire time! The administrative backend of this software does archive modifications automatically, and enables the restoration of previous versions if necessary, but I’d still have to manually go through them all to know what the exact changes were.
However, as I wasn’t writing anywhere near as much during this period, it is quite likely that most of those changes were nothing more than simple typographical and grammatical corrections.

Completely revised the sub-section on buds to include the following six, new, sub-sections:
Main Buds on Permanent Branches
Main Buds on Secondary Branches
Main Buds on Fruiting Mother Branches
Secondary Buds on Permanent Branches
Secondary Buds on Secondary Branches
Secondary Buds on Fruiting Mother Branches

An Introduction to Roots and the Rhizosphere
The Rhizosphere Microbiome
Edited the etymologies for words suffixed with -troph. Where this suffix had been defined as ‘eater’, this has been corrected to the more accurate ‘nourishment’.

Essential Macronutrients: Nitrogen (N)
Second paragraph rewritten for clarity: “Plants receive these nutrients either as standalone ions or as part of other compounds. Potassium, for example, is available to plants as potassium ions (K+), while nitrogen is only available to plants as ammonium ions (NH4+) or nitrate ions (NO3-).”.

Essential Macronutrients: Nitrogen (N)
Sixth paragraph, first sentence “Elemental nitrogen is about 2-4% by weight of dry plant tissue, depending on species.” edited to read “Elemental nitrogen is about 2-5% by weight of dry plant tissue, depending on species.”.
Essential Macronutrients: Nitrogen (N)
Sixth paragraph, new third sentence added: “Yet deficiencies may appear when this concentration falls below 1.5-2%.”.
Essential Macronutrients: Nitrogen (N)
Sixth paragraph, last sentence “Yet nitrogen is the highest in concentration of all the macronutrients, with the next highest being elemental potassium (K), at around 1%.” edited to read “Nitrogen is the highest in concentration of all the macronutrients before deficiencies begin to appear, with the next highest being elemental potassium (K), at around 1-1.5%.”.

A World Without Prokaryotes
Inserted a new paragraph after the sixteenth paragraph which ends “Even termites and other insect wood-decomposers rely on gut microbes to break down the cellulose and other compounds in wood.” to say “And of course, as just mentioned, many animals rely on their own gut microbes (all prokaryotes) to provide essential components to their diets. Malnutrition and deficiencies would appear in the absence of these organisms, but would show up later than in animals with very cellulose-heavy diets, who would simply start wasting away once their body reserves were exhausted.”.
A World Without Prokaryotes
In the sixth-last paragraph, replaced “…stopping energy production, and thus cellular respiration. Either way, a cell with no functioning mitochondria quicky dies. When enough cells die, the organism dies.” with “…stopping cellular respiration and thus energy production. Either way, a cell with no functioning mitochondria quicky dies. When enough key cells die, such as in the heart, the organism dies.”.

Photo Journal: Growth and Branch Development 1
Edited the paragraph immediately under Figure 12, fifth sentence “The branchlets can vary from 10-20 cm in length, have from 6 to 13 alternating leaves, and typically produce up to 3 fruits.” to read “The branchlets can vary from 100-300 mm in length (most fall within 120-250 mm in my experience), have alternating leaves on nodes 20-25 mm apart, and typically produce 3 or more fruits.”.

Photo Journal: Anatomy of a Jujube Flower
Updated the text wherever ‘anthers’ were mentioned, and the third photo, to include ‘filaments’.

Photo Journal of a Young Jujube Tree Coming Out of Dormancy
Added an extra photo at the end to show the branch lengths more clearly.

Homemade Potting Mix
Under the Coir (Coconut Husks) subheading, corrected the second sentence “The approximately 19 × 265 × 125 mm block…” to read “The approximately 190 × 265 × 125 mm block…”.

Fertilisers For the Backyard Enthusiast to Try
Edited the second-last paragraph, third and fourth sentences “Do you lean towards the completely ‘natural’ fertiliser/booster formulations, or do you like the idea of a scientifically-advanced low-maintenance slow-release one?” to read “Do you lean towards the completely ‘natural’ fertiliser/booster formulations in conjunction with supplements of the nutrients these lack? Or do you like the idea of a scientifically-advanced, low-maintenance, slow-release one that delivers everything required?”.

Soil Experiments You Can Do At Home
Edited the jar photo caption “Soil fractions in a jar” to read “Soil fractions in a jar after one week”.
Soil Structure: Good Ped Formation
Edited the last sentence “Next week we will zoom in a little closer on our crumbs, and look at two very important components: clay and humus.” to read “Next week we will zoom in a little closer on our crumbs, and look more deeply at their two very important components: clay and humus.”.

Soil Properties
Added “(Go here for details on how to assess your own soil texture and composition!)“ to the ‘Texture’ section, which links to Soil Experiments You Can Do At Home.

Cultivation:
After “Trees are traditionally spaced 4-5 m apart within the row, and 10 m between rows”, inserted “, but we’ll cover more intensive, space-saving ways of planting in future posts. Jujubes can grow to 10 m high by 6 m wide if let go, but keeping them pruned to a height of 3-5 m makes management and harvesting easier.”
Corrected typographical rendering. The tilde character (∼) to denote ‘around’ looked like a hyphen (-) owing to the font used. This character was changed to the Unicode version and “(∼ pH 8)” and “(∼ pH 6)” now render correctly.
Corrected typo. Changed “a 50 cm pot as the first pot” to “a 40 cm pot as the first pot”.
What Is Soil?:
After “Lichens” inserted “(which are not single organisms but rather fungi and algae or fungi and cyanobacteria living together in beneficial relationships)”.
