Redox (Reduction-Oxidation)
A reduction-oxidation, or redox, reaction, is one in which there is a transfer of electrons from an atom, ion or molecule to another.
The one which loses electrons to the other is oxidised/undergoes oxidation.
The one which receives electrons from the other is reduced/undergoes reduction.
See Oxidation, Reduction, Oxidising Agent (Oxidant, Oxidiser), and Reducing Agent (Reductant, Reducer).

Kristi Ellinopoullos
BSc(Hons), U.Syd. - double major in biochemistry and microbiology, with honours in microbiology
